The Prayer of Jesus Moments Before Betrayal and Arrest

1 “Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so he can give glory back to you. 2 For you have given him authority over everyone. He gives eternal life to each one you have given him. 3 And this is the way to have eternal life—to know you, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, the one you sent to earth. 4 I brought glory to you here on earth by completing the work you gave me to do. 5 Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began.

Absolute obedience and humbleness by the Son, the way to eternal life, God incarnate, giving glory to God in His coming and His going, and as before the world began.

6 “I have revealed you to the ones you gave me from this world. They were always yours. You gave them to me, and they have kept your word. 7 Now they know that everything I have is a gift from you, 8 for I have passed on to them the message you gave me. They accepted it and know that I came from you, and they believe you sent me.

God is in the Son, who is God, the gift of salvation and truth of God.

9 “My prayer is not for the world, but for those you have given me, because they belong to you. 10 All who are mine belong to you, and you have given them to me, so they bring me glory. 11 Now I am departing from the world; they are staying in this world, but I am coming to you. Holy Father, you have given me your name; now protect them by the power of your name so that they will be united just as we are. 12 During my time here, I protected them by the power of the name you gave me. I guarded them so that not one was lost, except the one headed for destruction, as the Scriptures foretold.

What belongs to God belongs to the Son who is God, with His name who protects those given Him by the power of the name, which is Jesus Christ Living God.

13 “Now I am coming to you. I told them many things while I was with them in this world so they would be filled with my joy. 14 I have given them your word. And the world hates them because they do not belong to the world, just as I do not belong to the world. 15 I’m not asking you to take them out of the world, but to keep them safe from the evil one. 16 They do not belong to this world any more than I do. 17 Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth. 18 Just as you sent me into the world, I am sending them into the world. 19 And I give myself as a holy sacrifice for them so they can be made holy by your truth.

By the power of the name given, those who believe in the name Jesus, no longer belong to the world, but to God, because of the truth by faith in them that comes from the word (John 1:1-5) that was sacrificed so they too could become holy by the word of truth that sets them free.

20 “I am praying not only for these disciples but also for all who will ever believe in me through their message. 21 I pray that they will all be one, just as you and I are one—as you are in me, Father, and I am in you. And may they be in us so that the world will believe you sent me.

May all who hear the word which is truth, be set free for all eternity, living even after dying - while yet here on earth, to live in unity and as one body (Christian), without division causing strife (denominations), just as Father and Son are ONE.

22 “I have given them the glory you gave me, so they may be one as we are one. 23 I am in them and you are in me. May they experience such perfect unity that the world will know that you sent me and that you love them as much as you love me. 24 Father, I want these whom you have given me to be with me where I am. Then they can see all the glory you gave me because you loved me even before the world began!

The Son, who is God, gives those who trust in Him, His glory at salvation, that He may be in them, as the Son is in the Father, and the Father is in the Son, even before the world began.

25 “O righteous Father, the world doesn’t know you, but I do; and these disciples know you sent me. 26 I have revealed you to them, and I will continue to do so. Then your love for me will be in them, and I will be in them” - John 17:1-26 (NLT) New Living Translation.

The world doesn't know God because it refuses to recognize the Son, Jesus who is God, and His living word which is truth. By the power of the Holy Spirit within all believers (Third part of the Holy Trinity - Father, Son, Holy Spirit), Jesus will continue to reach the world through those predestined to know and share the truth that others also can know God, who is love, and by faith, He lives in us, and we in Him.

Holy Trinity | Father, Son, Holy Spirit | simplified by the word which is truth

Three parts of the Holy Trinity, but always as ONE, never separate.

Example:

One popular and simple illustration of the Trinity is the egg. A chicken egg consists of a shell, a yolk, and an egg white, yet it is altogether one egg. The three parts create a unified whole. The shortfall of this illustration, and others like it, is that God cannot be divided into “parts.” The Father, the Son, and the Spirit are one in essence, but the same cannot be said for the shell, yolk, and white of an egg; one cannot be without the other.

Three roles played: Father directs the Son - Son directs the Holy Spirit, Holy Spirit directs us, and yet always acting as ONE - God the Father | God the Son | God the Holy Spirt.

Genesis 1:26 begins: Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our (trinity) image, to be like us (plural)."

Genesis 1:27 begins: "So God (singular) created human beings in his own (as ONE) image."

John 1:1-5 teaches: 1 In the beginning the Word already existed. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He existed in the beginning with (Son/Jesus) God. 3 God created everything through him (Jesus), and nothing was created except through him (Jesus). 4 The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his (Jesus), life brought light to everyone. 5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.

John 14:26 teaches: But when the Father sends the Advocate as my representative—that is, the Holy Spirit—he will teach you everything and will remind you of everything I have told you.

Acts 2:38 teaches: Peter replied, “Each of you must repent of your sins and turn to God, and be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. Then you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."

Psalm 51:11 teaches: Do not banish me from your presence, and don’t take your Holy Spirit from me.

Revelation 21:10 teaches: So he took me in the Spirit to a great, high mountain, and he showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, descending out of heaven from God.

Throughout scripture, from beginning to end, we are introduced to the trinity, at different times, and yet, always as ONE.
