When we first read scripture (The Holy Bible), there is a formula to help us get the most out of the LIVING WORD from the LIVING GOD.
We begin with the book of JOHN, in the New Testament … the 4th book of The Gospels … (for the gentiles/unbelievers/new believers) - and in doing so - I highly recommend the New Living Translation (NLT), which I have linked to 'the book of JOHN' above or HERE!
Then, the book of MATTHEW ... MARK ... LUKE ... ACTS ... ROMANS, and right through to the end of the New Testament (book of REVELATION).
Then, we introduce ourselves to God’s wisdom, knowledge, and understanding, beginning with the book of PROVERBS ... then to the book of ECCLESIASTES ... and then the book of PSALMS.
And finally, we’re ready to learn about our beginning, with the book of GENESIS ... then EXODUS ... LEVITICUS ... and right through to the end of the Old Testament (book of MALACHI).
*** The idea, by the time we reach the book of Genesis, we are eager to know and learn of our beginning and how history has unfolded by the spoken living word of the living God.

Majority of Christians would not recommend this book, but I do, not out of spite, but because I found Jesus Christ in this book 'The Power of Positive Thinking.' I also met the author; he was 92 at the time if not mistaken, speaking in Laval, Quebec - amazingly blessed man with a simple message of hope in Christ (Philippians 4:13).

Answers in Genesis (Opens to Dead Sea Scroll links) - an incredible ministry for truth, especially in discrediting evolution, for which evidence from truth sources supports Divine/Intelligent Design only - a young earth - not a million or billion year old earth
